Synopsis The objective of the symposium is to discuss breakthrough optical technologies for realizing the global optical infrastructure 20 years or more from now, where the amount of data traffic will increase by fourth or 5th orders of magnitude, and backbone transmission capacity of well over Pbit/s per fiber with Tbit/s access at home will be a reality. In the symposium, in addition to the keynote speeches by the most eminent keynote speakers, each session includes the NICT study group reports on each subject of "Optical Fiber Technologies", "Optical Transmission & Node Technologies" and "Optical Submarine Cable System Technologies"
