These cables were provided with clip-type locking mechanism due to their difficulty in procuring the specified jackscrew mechanisms. As was indicated in an earlier e-mail from Will Aldrich and myself, we have mated these cables to corresponding connectors that we have at Haystack and find the cliplock mechanism to be quite stable and competent. Though a jackscrew may be slightly more permanent, it is our judgment that the cliplock is entirely adequate for the VSI-H application (this is not a jet fighter aircraft application!) and that we should accept the wishes of the Japanese in this matter. Furthermore, we at Haystack offer to send (upon request from anyone) one of the cables the Japanese kindly provided to us along with the mating connector so that you can examine it for yourself (you will have to return it, however). I think it is important that we settle this issue at the earliest possible date and move on to resolve more important matters (like VSI-S!). Respectfully, Alan
