Abstract
Geodetic VLBI Experiments were carried out on the baselines including
Minamidaito island in 1990 and 1991. It was the first attempt to
determine the Philippine sea plate movement by multi-baseline
VLBI experiments.
The Philippine sea plate motions relative to the Eurasian plate and
the North American plate are estimated using the data obta
ined by the experiments. The plate velocity estimated
by the experiments are larger than that derived from geological and
seismological data, and the results of GPS observations.
The direction of the observed movement of Minamidaito relative to
the Eurasian plate is N78.1W and rather close to the result of GPS
measurement.
