Terahertz Technology Research Cente

Terahertz Technology Research Center Outline

The terahertz radiation band lies in a marginal area between radio waves and light waves in the electromagnetic spectrum, with frequencies ranging between 100 GHz and 10 THz. Owing to technical issues in its generation and/or detection, this band has remained unexplored until recently. Recent progress in research and development has now enabled us to explore further into this field; attention has been drawn with regard to the possibilities of its applications, such as innovative imaging or measurement techniques and methods for massive data transfer.

In our research center at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), our goal is to contribute in promoting the research and development of terahertz electromagnetic radiation and investigating its applications in a wide range of industrial and academic fields. Working steadily toward this goal, we are mobilizing all the relevant resources that we currently possess, as well as closely collaborating with other research institutes in Japan and other countries.

The Workshop of JSAP Professional Group on Terahertz (THz) Technology
(JSAP= The Japan Society of Applied Physics=)
- The Prospects for the THz Applications that the New THz Science reflects –

In recent years, the application related material, environmental measurement, security, bio technology is received a lot of attention by the advancing THz Technology.
The deployment related technology and basic science of terahertz region is further developed and, even in various scientific journals are taken up non-linear optical crystal, the THz radiation from the electron accelerator and the material science in the THz region.
In this workshop, the purpose is to the opportunity to induce terahertz applications in the future, to accelerate the research and development by sharing these latest information on "basic research in the THz region".

Call for registration: NICT Symposium on the Safe and Secure Next-Generation ICT Forum
We are calling your attention to this symposium and to the earthquake-disaster measure technology exhibition. A series of presentations will be given by academic experts who understand the needs for disaster prevention, as well as by researchers who provide the seeds of the technology. Through the panel discussion after the presentation, various topics will be discussed with the presentation speakers regarding future agenda in technology development and research systems necessary for earthquake-disaster measures as well as the pathways in applying the research on new disaster-prevention technologies into practical applications.
