Real-time Solar Wind Simulation

Three-dimensional structure of the solar wind is simulated in real time to predict solar wind parameters at the Earth. The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulation is performed by using magnetic field data obtained by SOHO/MDI.

Solar wind on ecliptic plane

The solar wind speed and magnetic fields inside the Earth's orbit on ecliptic plane are drawn. The sun is located at the center of the image, and black circle stands for the Earth. Color contours show the solar wind speed. Black (White) ticks show magnetic fields whose direction is away from (toward) the sun.

Time-series of solar wind at the Earth

Time-series of the solar wind velocity and the sector angle of magnetic fields at the Earth are drawn on the plot. The sector angle is measured from x-axis of GSE-coordinate, which is a direction from the Earth to the Sun.
