Date&Time Wednesday June 22, 2005 (1)13:30~14:30 (2)14:45~15:45
Place Conference Room, 2F, Research Building 1, KARC
Lecturer(1) "Laser spectroscopy of nanoscale materials -Introduction of Itoh laboratory-"
Speaker Prof. Tadashi Itoh
(Graduate School of Engineering Science,Osaka University)
Abstract Graduate School of Engineering Science is unique in name and character in Japan. The purpose is to develop new technologies based on basic sciences, and vice versa. Its research direction will be reviewd. In the latter part, recent activities of Itoh laboratory, e.g. laser spectroscopy of nanoscale materials, will be presented briefly.
Lecturer(2) "Amplification of molecular vibrations using degenerate four wave mixing"
Speaker Assoc. Prof. Yutaka Nagasawa
(Graduate School of Engineering Science,Osaka University)
Abstract Coherent vibrations of molecules can be induced by photo-excitation with ultrafast laser pulses of the duration of less than 100fs. Recently, the coherent control of molecular vibrations is utilized in manipulation of chemical reactions or novel spectroscopy. We observed amplification of low-frequency molecular vibrations using a photon echo method, which is a kind of four-wave mixing. The amplitude of the vibrations in the photon echo configuration is found to be stronger than that in the case of a transient grating configuration.
