The066th KARC Colloquium

The066th KARC Colloquium was ended. Thank you for the participation.

Date&Time Monday September 26, 2005 15:00~17:00
Place Conference Room, 3F, Research Building 2, KARC
Lecturer(1) "The contingent brain"
Speaker Mr. Kenichiro Mogi
(Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc.)
Abstract In this talk, I will discuss how the brain processes contingency encountered in the interaction with the environment. Recent developments in neuroeconomics and the dynamics in brain's reward system have brought about a new understanding of how the brain overcomes contingency. I will review recent work as well as report some new findings.
Lecturer(2) "Local mechanism for global adaptation in binocular rivalry"
Speaker Mr. Fumihiko Taya
(Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc.)
Abstract Binocular rivalry, where each image competes to emerge in the visual field during the presentation of dissimilar images to the right and the left eye, is widely known. First, we suggest the spatio-temporal method to study the spatio-temporal structure of the wide visual field. By using this method, we have studied how the visual system assigned the visual field while we presented salient features, e.g. the moving objects. Based on the result, we will discuss the possibility that the small world network architecture, where the local and the global interactions among neurons at an early stage of the visual processing, plays an important role in the adaptation of the visual system to the dynamically changing external environment.
