Abstract | Lecture1 PHOTONIC SENSORS ARE THE CLASS OF SENSORS THAT DETECT CHANGES IN A PHYSICAL PROPERTY, SUCH AS INTENSITY, FREQUENCY, OR PHASE, OF LIGHTWAVE IN RESPONSE TO THE QUANTITY OF THE TARGET ANALYTE. THE TYPES OF ANALYTES INCLUDE LIQUID OR GASEOUS CHEMICALS, AND BIOMOLECULES SUCH AS PROTEINS AND DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID (DNA). THE ELECTROMAGNETIC RESISTANCE QUALITY OF THESE SENSORS PLUS THE CAPABILITY TO INTEGRATE WITH OPTICAL FIBERS ENABLE REMOTE SENSING IN HARSH AND TOXIC ENVIRONMENTS. IN ADDITION, PHOTONIC BIOSENSING ALLOWS LABEL-FREE BIOSENSING WHERE THE BIO-ANALYTES CAN BE DETECTED DIRECTLY WITHOUT THE NEED FOR FLUORESCENT OR ENZYME LABELS. EFFICIENT FUNCTIONALIZATION OF THE PHOTONIC SENSORS WITH BIORECEPTORS, E.G. ANTIBODIES, IS KEY TO INCREASING THE RESPONSIVITY. WE WILL ALSO PRESENT SEVERAL BIORECEPTOR COATING TECHNIQUES APPLICABLE TO PROTEIN SENSING SUCH AS APTES SILANIZATION WITH EDC/NHS PROTEIN CROSSLINK, AND ANIME-FUNCTIONALIZED SILICA NANOPARTICLES WITH N-TERMINAL TO N-TERMINAL CROSSLINKERS. Lecture2 THE ORIGIN OF THE BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE (BMEI) AT CHIANG MAI UNIVERSITY (CMU) BEGAN WITH THE COORDINATION AMONG RESEARCHERS FROM SEVERAL FACULTIES. INDEED, CHIANG MAI UNIVERSITY BOASTS A MULTITUDE OF HIGH-QUALITY RESEARCHERS ACROSS VARIOUS FIELDS RELATED TO BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, INCLUDING THE FACULTY OF ENGINEERING, MEDICINE, SCIENCE, ASSOCIATED MEDICAL SCIENCES, PHARMACY, AGRICULTURE, AGRO-INDUSTRY, DENTISTRY, AND VETERINARY MEDICINE. FURTHERMORE, THESE AFFILIATED RESEARCHERS PRODUCE NUMEROUS RESEARCH WORKS THAT ARE WIDELY RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONALLY. THEREFORE, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BMEI AIMS TO CULTIVATE UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATES WITH EXPERTISE IN BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING. THIS KNOWLEDGE IS INTENDED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COUNTRY'S DEVELOPMENT IN THIS FIELD AND PROVIDE ACADEMIC SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY. OUR SAMPLE TASKS INCLUDE ACTING AS CONSULTANTS AND DEVELOPERS OF MEDICAL DEVICES FOR THE COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS DISSEMINATING KNOWLEDGE TO OTHER COMMUNITIES, HOSPITALS, OR MEDICAL SERVICE CENTERS. THIS INVOLVES PRODUCING RESEARCH IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TO ENHANCE RESEARCH EFFECTIVENESS AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTRY. |
