Fabrication of Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) Thin Films by Wire-Bar Coating Technique and Evaluation of Transient Photocurrent Response in Its bR Photocells

We prepared a bR thin film by the wire-bar coating technique, and investigated the transient
photo-current characteristics of the bR photocell. The transient photo-current signal of bR
photocells prepared by the wire-bar coating technique and the dip coating technique was
compared. An almost identical transient photo-current signal intensity was obtained both for
the wire-bar coating technique and dip coating technique, while the thickness of bR thin film
prepared by the wire-bar coating technique is slightly thinner than that prepared by the dip …

Fabrication of bacteriorhodopsin (bR) thin films by wire-bar coating technique and evaluation of differential photocurrent response in its bR photocells

T Yamada, Y Haruyama, K Kasai, T Kaji… - … Report; IEICE Tech …, 2015 - ken.ieice.org
(in English) Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) is a protein containing a covalently bound protonated
Schiff base retinal chromophore, found in the purple membrane of Halobacterium
salinarium. It is well-known that the bR exhibits a light-driven proton pump function, and
photo-sensor devices having the bR thin film show a time-differential photo-current signal
under the “ON” or “OFF” of photo-irradiation. We previously observed a transient photo-
current signal under the ON/OFF of photo-irradiation for a photo-cell that has a bR thin film …
