Intermolecular Coupling Enhancement of
The Molecular Hyperpolarizability in NLO Dendrons

CONCLUSION
We have shown that NLO chromophores can be incorporated into a dendritic structure with a noncentrosymmetric molecular orientation. Experimental analysis by HRS measurement provided information about the molecular conformation of the azobenzene dendrons, making it possible to form a molecularly assembled structure. The result of conformational properties indicated the likelihood of high-performance NLO activity. The molecular hyperpolarizability of azobenzene dendrons became large as the number of chromophoric units increased, and their effective second-order susceptibility per each chromophoric was enhanced presumably due to the chromophore-chromophore electronic coupling. Additional experiments and molecular simulation studies on such molecular electronic properties will be carried out to clarify chromophore- chromophore interaction and to extend these materials to the novel applications. We conclude that azobenzen dendrons are suitable for NLO application.
