Second Circular Technical Workshop for APT and APSG 1996 (TWAA96) Kashima Space Research Center, Communications Research Laboratory (Kashima, Japan) 10-13 December, 1996 The Venue We chose to use ATON Palace Hotel as a venue of the TWAA96 workshop. The hotel is located about 10km south of the Kashima Space Research Center. The Local Organizing Committee has booked accommodation rooms in the Aton Palace Hotel and in the Kashima IVY Hotel which is located near-by. Each participant who requested accommodation arrangements in the registration form will receive the accommodation information from the Local Organizing Committee by the end of November. If you need to change the departing/arriving date or if you have special requests, please send your requests to the Local Organizing Committee. There will be 7 services during the day. If you have not informed your time of arrival to the LOC yet, please do so as soon as you fixed your flight schedule. One of the LOC staff will meet the passengers in front of the Meeting Service Desk counter. The counter is located at the ground (arrival) level of Terminal 1 and 2. We use the place only to meet with the shuttle van passengers. Since we will not inform the person in the desk anything, please do not ask about our shuttle van service to avoid confusions. If you can not find convenient time schedule, please consult with the LOC. You can use this shuttle service to visit Kashima Space Research Center after you checked-in the room at your hotel as far as there is a seat. There will be no pick-ups on Sunday, December 8. If your flight arrive at Narita airport on December 8, please book your accommodation near the airport for the Sunday night. If you have a difficulty to make reservation from your country, LOC will make the reservation for you. Please let us know your preference. We will arrange one of the shuttle vans to stop at the hotel you are staying to pick you up on Monday, December 9. For those who come to the workshop from Tokyo, highway bus services from the Tokyo station are convenient. Please take a Kashima Jingu Express at the Yaesu South bus terminal of Tokyo station and get off at Kashima Central Hotel bus stop, which is the second bus stop from Tokyo station. The bus will take less than 2 hours to reach the destination and the fare is 1750 yen one way. Kashima IVY hotel is a walking distance from the bus stop. Aton Palace Hotel is accessible by a taxi or by a public bus. You may come to the Kashima Space Research Center which is two stops from the Kashima Central Hotel by the Express Bus. Then you can go to Aton Palace Hotel by catching a shuttle service to the airport. We will also provide shuttle to the airport on Saturday December 14. The time will be determined during the workshop. There will be no shuttle services on Sunday, December 15. For those who will leave Japan on December 15, please book your accommodation near the airport for the Saturday night. If you have a difficulty to make reservation from your country, LOC will make the reservation for you. Please let us know your preference. Messages During the workshop, we are planning to prepare two PC terminals connected to the Internet for e-mail accesses. Please check the time assigned for your presentation in the workshop program before preparing your presentation materials. Please allow at least 3 minutes of time for questions and discussions. There will be poster spaces available for those who can not cover all the details in your time allotted for the oral presentation. Please arrange your oral presentation to give essence of your points and display detailed information on the poster. Poster space is 90cm (W) x 120cm (H). LOC has assigned some of the submitted papers to the poster session. If you still prefer oral presentation in spite it is assigned in the poster session, or vise versa, please contact the LOC. Push pins will be provided for the poster display. If you need special equipments to display your poster, please consult the LOC. An Over Head Projector and a 35mm Slide Projector will be available for the oral presentations. The LOC is also considering to introduce a LCD projector which can enlarge 17 inch display of a PC to a screen. If you prepared your presentation material by using one of the presentation softwares (ex. Microsoft PowerPoint), please bring the original file on a floppy disk along with the transparencies. If we could not prepare the LCD projector by the time of the workshop, we will at least put your presentation files on our WWW server so that all the APT/APSG colleagues who could not attend the workshop can browse your presentation over the Internet. The preliminary program will be sent to the workshop participants shortly. If you have not send your registration to the LOC yet, the title of your presentation is proposed by the Workshop Organizing Committee. In this case, please send your registration form with the true title and abstracts no later than November 15. The program will be continuously updated, so please visit our WWW server and check the final version of the program frequently. There will be three subjects to be discussed in the open discussions scheduled on the Day 3 (December 12). If you want to raise topics to be discussed or if you have ideas, recommendations, opinions related with these themes, please prepare to present them in the beginning of each session. It will also be a good idea to arrange your talk to focus problems and include possible ways to solve such problems. Proceedings Workshop proceedings will be published after the workshop. Please prepare camera-ready manuscripts for the proceedings and bring them to the workshop. The maximum page limit is 5 pages of A4 (or Letter) size papers for each presentation. The recommended format of the proceedings can be accessed at our WWW server at . You can down-load the LaTeX style file for the proceedings. If you use the style file and provide us the source file with figure files in a Postscript format in a machine readable media along with the camera-ready manuscripts, the manuscripts will appear on the WWW server. Excursions There will be two excursions on Friday, December 13 as announced in the first circular. Participants can choose one of the two excursion tours. Each tour will stop at the Kashima Space Research Center to introduce our 34m antenna and KSP (VLBI and SLR) facilities. Tour 2 Aton Palace Hotel -- Kashima Space Research Center -- National Astronomical Observatory (Mitaka) -- Communications Research Laboratory (Koganei) -- Aton Palace Hotel You can visit Mitaka correlator for the VSOP project. Also you will be able to see the Tokyo SLR station and the KSP facilities at Koganei. Originally the Tour 2 was planned to visit ISAS to see the VSOP spacecraft, but it appeared that the spacecraft will not be at ISAS on December 13. Therefore we changed the destination of the Tour 2 and included the Koganei site of the Communications Research Laboratory. All the workshop participants will return to the hotel and stay in Kashima. If you need special arrangements, you have to send your requests to the LOC. On Monday, December 9, all the participants will receive instructions for self-guided excursion tour to Kashima Shrine and other points of interest. You can arrange your own sightseeing course by yourself using local transportations and shuttle van services provided by the LOC.
