Abstract | Since the invention of the laser 40 years ago, the laser technology has been amazingly developing until now. The cutting-edge technologies a decade ago, such as precise frequency control using laser diode,, ultrafast pulse generation with Ti:Sapphire laser, and giant pulse generation, have become standard methods in the laboratory. The investigation of the quantum control of matters by laser light has been performed in many fields. Laser can generate an ensemble of photons with very high Bose degenerousy. Transferring the coherence of a low-entropy ensemble of photons to the matter system via the interaction between light and matter gives rise to the quantum degenerate states, eg. extremely low temperature atomic gas using laser cooling method. The ultimate example is Bose-Einstein condensation of atoms. We have experimentally explored cooperative quantum phenomena making very low and high-density states of particles, such as atoms, excitons, or photo-excited carriers using laser light. In this presentation we will discuss our recent advances in laser cooling of alkali-earth atoms toward quantum degenerated states, coherent control of biexciton waves, formation of electron-hole droplets via exciton Mott transition and nonlinear optical responses in strongly correlated electron systems. |
