Date&Time | Tuesday March 14, 2006 14:30~15:30 |
Place | Conference Room, 3F, Research Building 2, KARC |
Lecturer | "One- and Two-Dimensional Self-Assembly of Shape-Persistent Macrocyclic Compounds" |
Speaker | Prof. Yoshito Tobe (Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University) |
Abstract | Planar shape-persistent macrocyclic molecules consisting of benzene and acetylene units tend to self-assemble in solution due to pi-pi interactions and/or solvophobic interactions, forming one-dimensional aggregates possesseing tubular structures. In contrast, at the solid-liquid interface, these macrocycles self-assemble in two-dimension owing to intermolecular and/or molecule-substrate interactions, forming two-dimensional networks. After a brief introduction to the research activities in our laboratories, the above topics, mainly based on the results from our laboratories, will be presented. |
