Report on the Student Gathering Event for the Student Communities Project

On January 13, 2026, a Student Gathering Event was held online for Japanese students participating in the Student Communities Project under GPAI associated projects.

The Student Communities Project is an international initiative jointly implemented by the GPAI Expert Support Centers in Tokyo, Paris, and Montreal. Within the Japanese student community supported by the Tokyo Center, students conduct interview-based research under the guidance of their supervisors, engaging with companies and other organizations that have implemented AI, with analysis focusing on the impacts of AI on industry and society.

The event was attended by 28 students and four supervisors from four research laboratories at the University of Tokyo, Toyo University, and Doshisha University (two laboratories). At the outset, an overview of the project and the significance of student participation were presented by Dr. HARAYAMA Yuko, Secretary General of the Tokyo Center. This was followed by case study presentations by student representatives and small-group discussions, during which insights gained through the research were shared and discussions were held across universities and laboratories.

Looking ahead, each student will compile their own survey report based on their research findings. The reports will be presented at the Activity Reporting Session on March 18 and published on this website.

In addition, in conjunction with the AI Impact Summit to be held in New Delhi, India, from February 19-20, 2026, a side event related to this project is planned to be co-hosted by the 3 Centers and relevant Indian partner organizations. Representatives of university faculty and students from Japan are scheduled to participate in it and present the research outcomes to date.
