VISA FOR ENTERING JAPAN
All Foreign participants must carry a valid passport, and in many cases a visa also. Anyone who needs a visa should apply early, leaving enough time for processing and any possible corrections. In some cases it may take much time to get a visa after submitting an application.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE
The currency is the yen. Please check the exchange rate. Yen can be purchased all foreign exchange banks , major hotels and authorized money exchanges upon presentation of your passport.
Banknotes: 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 yen. Coins: 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 yen.
TRAVELER'S CHEQUE AND CREDIT CARDS
Traveler's cheques are not as widely used in Japan as in most other countries and are accepted only by major banks and hotels. Major credit cards are widely accepted.
A service charge is included in some bills.
The consumption tax (VAT) rate is 5%.
INSURANCE
Participants are recommended to arrange their own overseas travel insurance.
CLIMATE
Winter lasts from December to February, with many days of low temperature. Even in the central part of the city, it sometimes snows, although the snow seldom piles up. The daytime hours are shortened, as the sun sets around 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, in the vicinity of the Ogasawara islands, the temperature stays somewhere around 20 Cc[ even in mid-winter, but in the Okutama area, it snows much and the snow often piles up. This shows the variety of winter situations in Tokyo depending on the area.
TIME
In relation to Greenwich, Tokyo is +8 hours in the summer and +9 hours in the winter.
ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE
100 volts and a flat two-pronged plug is used. 50 Hz in eastern Japan.
