Terahertz Technology Research Cente

Outline of Terahertz Technology Research Center (TTRC)

The terahertz radiation band lies in a marginal area between radio waves and light waves in the electromagnetic spectrum, with frequencies ranging between 100 GHz and 10 THz. Owing to technical issues in its generation and/or detection, this band has remained unexplored until recently. Recent progress in research and development has now enabled us to explore further into this field; attention has been drawn with regard to the possibilities of its applications, such as innovative imaging or measurement techniques and methods for massive data transfer.

In our Terahertz Technology Research center (TTRC) at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), our goal is to contribute in promoting the research and development of terahertz electromagnetic radiation and investigating its applications in a wide range of industrial and academic fields. Working steadily toward this goal, we are mobilizing all the relevant resources that we currently possess, as well as closely collaborating with other research institutes in Japan and other countries.
