Device-to-Device (D2D) Communications
Device-to-Device (D2D) Communications
We are currently conducting R&D on both PHY and MAC layers.
In the field test, the configuration is adopted with local community buses. Information such as local news, events and advertisements are collected, conveyed and broadcasted as buses move. Recently, we are developing elderly monitoring system based on D2D for depopulated areas where existing networks are usually underdeveloped.
Technical Description
D2D Communications
In D2D communications, neighboring devices connect with each other autonomously without central control.
Devices within the transmission range establish links while obeying predetermined protocols. Failure or stopping of any particular device has limited effect to the whole network.
In 2018, IEEE Std 802.15.8 was published which defines specifications for such D2D. NICT is a main contributor for this standard.
