IR-UWB

NICT has been participating in various working groups for assisting domestic UWB regulations including indoor UWB regulation in 2006 and outdoor UWB regulation in 2019. NICT is also an active member for developing domestic UWB standards within ARIB.

Meanwhile, we have developed IR-UWB localization systems and deployed them in in-operation warehouses, shopping malls and incorporated with various applications.

We are continuing research to further increase localization performance of IR-UWB.

Technical Description

IR-UWB

Because of its inherent high time resolution, low power consumption and low cost features, IR-UWB has been gaining attention for high precision ranging and localization as well as UWB radar.

Recently, it also attracts attention on keyless car access for enhancing security. IR-UWB is adopted in published standards of IEEE802.15.4a, IEEE802.15.6, etc.

IR-UWB is further enhanced in a new amendment of IEEE802.15.4z to be published in 2020.

NICT is a main contributor in developing these standards.
